In the heart of Big Bend National Park, you'll find the uniquely located Chisos Mountains Lodge nestled in the basin of the majestic Chisos Mountains. As the only lodging in the park, our accommodations provide modern comforts with our famous Texas hospitality. Our guests are treated to stunning scenery and serenity, as well as a vast undisturbed wilderness, all within a quick walking distance to our services and easy access to many of the park's world famous hiking trails.

Once you visit the Chisos Mountains Lodge, you will also experience Civilian Conservation Corps history. In the early 1930's, crews built the 7 mile stretch that is now known as the Basin road using only picks, shovels, rakes, and a dump truck that they loaded by hand. By 1941, a second camp built the Lost Mine Trail and the 6 Roosevelt Stone Cottages that are still in use today.

Since its designation in 1944, Big Bend National Park has been making the wilderness accessible to pleasure and adventure-seeking travelers.

Big Bend National park is one of the most inspiring and diverse parks in the U.S. It is rich with history and culture and is famous for its natural resources, recreational opportunities, and geology. At over 801,000 acres, the park boasts three diverse ecosystems: desert, mountain, and river. These vastly different environments provide an unparalleled outdoor experience and an extraordinary array of plants , wildlife, and habitats. In addition, the clear west Texas skies provide an unforgettable stargazing experience like no other. As a designated Gold Tier Dark Sky park, Big Bend is the one of the darkest parks in the lower 48 states and is second largest in the world.

Big Bend is a land where countries and cultures meet, sharing 118 miles of border with Mexico. The Boquillas Border Crossing has been re-opened after being closed for over ten years. This "pedestrian only" crossing between the United States and Mexico adds a new layer of fun and adventure to your visit to Big Bend National Park. The crossing offers a unique opportunity to ride across the river in a row boat, or wade across the Rio Grande if the water is low enough (Check with officials for river conditions)! Current posted hours to re-enter the US are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Round out your visit with gift shopping and dining at the Lodge. Our gift shop curio features merchandise created by local and Mexican artisans as well as a selection of Big Bend gifts, apparel, housewares, toys, and games. The restaurant offers tasty fare from early morning to evening and to-go breakfast and lunches for hikers. Enjoy wonderful views from the restaurant or outside on our patio, and be sure to stop by our lounge for a drink. The Basin Camp Store offers groceries, camping necessities, and snacks. Free WiFi is available in our restaurant, patio, gift shop, lounge and most rooms.

Camping & RV sites are also available in the park with 194 well-defined campsites, many with water and full-hookups for RVs.

Get the most out of your visit to Big Bend with an overland or national park guided tour. Experienced tour guides show you many of the hidden gems and historic wonders in the park. Tours are available in half and full-day adventures. Reservations are recommended.
